How Can I Care For My Wedding Flowers After The Wedding

Tips to care for your bouquet of flowers:

Watering

Flowers should immediately be placed in water in a clean container. Add flower food to the vase following the instructions on the package. You can also make your own flower food by combining 1 quart lukewarm water, 1 tablespoons sugar, and 2 tablespoons white vinegar. Keep your beautiful flowers away from direct sunlight and heat which can dry your blooms. For flowers in a vase, change the water every 2-3 days to avoid bacteria growth.

For flowers in foam, allow water from the sink to run over the arrangment for a few seconds. Place the arrangement away from direct sunlight and water the arrangment every 2 days with 1/2 cup of water.

Pressing

Pressing is an easy preservation method but can take up to a month to dry completely. Cut the stems from your flowers. Wrap the heads of the flowers in absorbent paper and place your flowers in the middle of a book. Close the book and press to flatten the flowers. Leave the flowers pressed in the book for three to four weeks to dry.

Air Drying

With air drying, mold is more prevalent, but the flower stems are preserved. Tie your flowers with a rubber band. Find a well-ventilated area in your home away from direct sunlight and hang your flowers upside down to dry your blooms. Check on your flowers regularly for two to three weeks.

Freeze Drying

DO NOT PUT YOUR FRESH FLOWERS IN THE FREEZER OR YOUR FLOWERS WILL BROWN.

Freeze drying dehydrates your flowers at a low temperature using a high-pressured vacuum. Find a company near you to freeze dry your fresh flowers.
